Cold-calling fraudsters target people across Britain

People across the United Kingdom are being inundated with calls offering bogus financial products from scammers claiming to be from fully authorised companies.

deVere United Kingdom has received numerous complaints in recent weeks from clients who are concerned they have been targeted by these fraudsters.  This has recently been highlighted by The Independent and The Sun, amongst others.

This group of con artists typically approach clients over a short space of time, posing as deVere United Kingdom, attempting to sell questionable and/or worthless financial products.

This has happened several times over the past three years, and the scammers go all out to clone our reputable name and branding, as we are a fully authorised, regulated and licenced entity.

Some are now even adopting false Financial Conduct Authority numbers that appear similar to our genuine one.

The fake firms tend to focus on a uniformed approach in their fraudulent activities.  They offer their targets a ‘taster’ without trying to sell anything during the first contact.  The scammers go on to claim they have cash ISAs paying 4 or 5 per cent, and corporate bonds of 6 to 7 per cent, allegedly protect by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

One deVere United Kingdom client who was contacted says: “Today I got details of what was being offered by the scam group: a one year bond for me at 6.25 per cent and a one year ISA for my wife at 4.75 per cent, both of which involve the transfer of funds to a bank in Denmark and no doubt from there to who knows where but probably someplace without extradition.”

I cannot stress enough to individuals across the UK the importance of being extremely cautious should they receive a cold call offering financial products.  Should funds be handed over to an unauthorised or clone firm, people will not be permitted access to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) or Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).

Neither deVere United Kingdom nor deVere Group handle client money, so I warn people never to send money to a bank account in these names.

Individuals who believe they have been approached by a bogus firm must report their suspicions to the FCA and Action Fraud.
