Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Further to my recent blog “7 reasons why you have already given up your new years resolutions”, I thought I would share Grant Cardone, New York Times bestselling author, international speaker, business innovator, social media personality and top sales trainer in the world, recent blog on his four easy steps to NEVER quit your goals:

How many of you have ever quit on your goals? Did you know that most people will give up or lower their target by the second week of February? Why is this a trend? Right now, people are pumped up about all the big things they want to do this year. Gyms are full and new diet plans are posted on the refrigerator. Enthusiasm is high…

Operating at 10X levels doesn’t mean you’ll always hit your goals. You have to hold on to your target for as longs as it takes to reach it. I say never lower your targets but that doesn’t mean that I hit my goal the first time. The opposite is usually true. That’s why I created the 10X Rule—to help overcome the obstacles between me and my goals.

What would happen if you never quit your goals again?

Remember, the target is never the problem. Whether you’re a salesperson or musician, it doesn’t matter what’s between you and your goals. Whether it’s drama, an argument, disappointments, or even a new baby—these are all excuses that we use to quit on goals. If you give up on your goals then you’ll give up on yourself, your dreams, and others.

Here’s what I do to never give up on my goals:

  • #1 Recommit to the Target Over and Over: Recommit daily no matter how tired or down you are. Write down your target and why you want to achieve it. Elon Musk tells himself every day, “we’re going to Mars.” He hasn’t done it yet but he reminds himself what he wants to achieve every day.

  • #2 Hold it together for short periods of time: A hour. A day. A week. It doesn’t have to be forever. Work in short intervals to prove to yourself that you can stick to it. If you fall off track, repeat step #1. Don’t focus on when you don’t get it right. Just start again. You’ll eventually get it right if you keep your goal in front of you.

  • #3 Have something to look forward to: See your future then back it with resources. Look ahead. Get a destination, a place where you want to go. The racing driver doesn’t stare at the wrecks, he focuses on where he wants to go. You don’t have to like it. You just need to see what’s coming down the road.

  • #4 Have someone hold you accountable: No one has ever made it by themselves. You need a team to do big things. The greats have a team. It’s not going to be your mom—you need a Tim Grover or a Lewis Howes. Someone that is doing big things that you can use to measure your level of activity. Stop trying to take on the world by yourself. Do what the greats do and surround yourself with a team that will hold you accountable!

Use these four steps to feed your goals every day.

You might have to go after your goal thousands of times before you’re successful but don’t quit. The rewards are always greater for action than planning the best strategy.

I hope these 4 simple steps help you stay on track for 2020!!
